Just how important are roads?Just how important are roads?

Oct 23rd - 21:03:01 PM | I know people like them. But they're really time-consuming for me to do.
It'd be a LOT easier to just go through the WHOLE world and tile them so the content looks refreshing. I'll still put trees down, I just won't update the minimaps and roads.
Tell me how important roads are to you. I mean I give the coord list anyway, it's not like they're hard to find in the first place.

Oct 25th - 12:26:39 PM | roads would help guide through areas where there are all the blocked spaces you cant step on, but if I could see the obstacles, I wouldn't need them. I tend to want to face mobs when exploring, so I avoid the roads. As a noob trying to get to another town, I might want them a bit more though. Maybe just roads in between the first couple towns?

03/15/2009 20:03 | Well, having a co-ordinates list does slightly remove the use of roads, but on the other hand lowered encounter rate is great when you don't have sneaking and are trying to get somewhere quickly. In terms of not getting lost though I typically just keep track of where I'm going co-ordinates wise.
If this topic is still relevant, that is.

03/16/2009 10:15 | Oh, sorry, yeah, they are. They're the same as the grass/roads/etc. When you get in there, you'll see little flowers and trees and stuff sitting on top of the under construction tiles randomly XD

Since MonBre appears to be a success, or will be a great success soon, I plan to get back into it, and the under-construction tiles will be the first to go!

???? leads to the great success

Unfortunately, there's nobody else who'd really get into it that I know :/

03/16/2009 22:40 | Well, having just started the game recently, I can definitely say that roads make a big difference. I know the co-ordinates are listed, but only for towns and villages. When trying to find a dungeon earlier I spent well over an hour wandering around looking because the area looked nothing like the minimap at all. If this applies to alot of other places in the game, I definitely think roads should be included.
Or if it is really hard to do roads, just put some landmarks to find our way or something. Right now its pretty much like wandering in the dark...

03/16/2009 23:48 | I don't think any of the dungeons are in the game just yet, I was looking for them myself. So far I think they're just place holders on the map for when Vael decides how exactly dungeons will work and decides how to implement them.

03/17/2009 00:58 | By dungeon I meant the nighteye cave. If there are other locations like that, that show a road on the minimap but it isn't really there, I think they should definitely be added. Plus overall when/if the game gets much more popular, it will make it seem like a much more decorated and realistic world IMO.

03/17/2009 11:15 | So far I've stopped to look for the Kichu Nest, whatever the name of that lake was, Burnt Spot x2 (I think there were two burnt spots, one near the swamp and one near Zunram), but since I saw this topic first I didn't bother with Nighteye Cave.
I think the under-construction tiles are going first, then possibly VIP features coded in, then probably dungeons or whatever's most important at that point. Dungeons might be second if Vael already knows exactly what he's going to do with them, though.
Or I could be completely wrong. You never know

Yes, I do plan to have those on the actual tiles. It will not be hard to find night eye cave for long. After this update I'm going to release, I'll be getting right back to work on quests and tiles.
Edit: And yeah, dungeons are going to be pretty tough to code. I'll end up doing it anyway for the last boss. (of monbre) (it's so cool)

My vote's for broad strokes first. You know, like 'blocking' in objects in painting.
