Well I feel that would be our next little "thing that newbies don't like". So tell me, how important is it to have a character that moves in all 8 directions?

The world of sprites is FULL of characters that move in four directions, but I can't find any non-stupid looking ones that are 8 directions.

I fear it may be lame, but I wanted to check in with you guys:

Do you think it is acceptable to have an avatar that only moves down-left-right-up? I don't want to make us look unprofessional. Also, how do you usually move while exploring? I personally go left-right-down-up anyway, sometimes with diagonals if I need to get somewhere.

Edit: Oh, and, I was considering letting VIPs use their own avatars, but I was thinking a solid 10 avatars for male and female should be good.

Oh, and for each diagonal, it'll just be the last move you made. Or, whatever I assign it to be.

It would depend on what you use, really. If you use Pokmon sprite #12974, or Crono, or anything really obvious like that it'd look kinda bad. At the same time, it'd have to be halfway decent... Not like Star Wars Combine graphics (bad enough to make me quit on the spot).

I wouldn't mind not having a specific sprite for the diagonals, I can't really think of a game I've ever seen that has that. Disgaea or one of Atlus's other games might have one, though...

But when that call never comes, it's time to face what you've become - there's no point doing all of this, unless you know you're having fun.

Jeez, I was actually going to put the last choice as being a pokemon trainer. >_> You know, as an homage or... something. The default would obviously be an obscure reference, maybe I'd even customize it.

Disgaea, yes it's directional but... the sprites are too big, and they're still only 4 directions. O.o;

Lol, well, I dunno. It depends on the person I guess. Some people might be like AWESOME POKEMON ON THE DS IS SO SWEET LOOK AT THOSE PIXELS!!! but others might be like oh, like I haven't seen this a million times before...

But yeah, you could probably customize it, I'm sure there's lots of variations out there.

Are you sure? I know you can move diagonally in Disgaea, I can't really remember if there is/isn't a different sprite for it though... I guess not, since you can't find any.

IMO four directions is good enough for me...and only face right or left when going diagonally...

That's how it'll be, Frank. Thanks.

Rakki - yes, it has diagonals, but it doesn't have the other directions. They use the "isometric" view.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight, totally forgot about that. Hence the going diagonally. Shows hows often I play it now that I've got other games to occupy my time.
