February 23rd, 2009 17:47:23 PM | I have decided, without a doubt, that I will now officially be giving monbre one last breath of hope. I WILL NOT BE SPENDING EONS CODING FOR SHIT THAT ISN'T GOING TO MAKE ME MONEY.
I plan to make a little "compass" sorta feature that tells people, when they are in town, what they have to do. I will make all these compasses up to mar' muras, so if you're past that area, sux4u.
If the game stays steady and people actually like it, and it seems I can make a small profit off it, I'll keep it going. The fact we went from 13 people logged in to 21 people logged in a day while I was neglecting the game shows me that it is fun. I still get good pageviews.
So: tell me what you want in.
Don't be surprised if I start up the last breath of monbre next Monday. And don't be surprised if it happens a month from now.
I still love monbre deep down inside. I will devote half my coding time to simulara and monbre if it appears that this game can become something.
So suggest what you think newbies will like, for next release.
Also: if it doesn't do as well as I'd hoped, I would just like to say that MonBre will one day return with a mighty vengeance. Well, go.

02/25/2009 21:35 | My opinion probably counts for something here, since I started yesterday while trolling through game voting sites... Are you paying for ads on one/some of them? Somebody is, anyway, since I saw one.
At first, I had a general idea of what to do... Train the crap out of my two monsters to try and get the 500 TP equipment, then see if I could solo gloria. A while later, I managed that, and it was all good.
But now, I dunno if I should continue hardcore training, or brave the mail delivery quest, or wander around and hope nothing eats me.
That's about the summary of my experience over the past day, but honestly I'd play this for a while. The compass thing sounds like a good idea, because it'd basically solve the only problem I have with the game. As soon as you can think of decent things to include for donations, you'll be set. Golden type monsters? Anti-mob spray? As long as it doesn't give anyone a REAL advantage, it's all fair.

Now there's a great first post. Thanks for the feedback. I suppose I can give some sort of amulet, emblem sorta deal... I like the repelling mob thing. Yes...
And whooooooey today I added borders to all the news displays.
I think I'll tackle how shitty this quote system is now.

02/25/2009 23:05 | I was thinking running shoes. It is very possible but I fear people will get stuck in the abyss because I only programmed (I was pretty much a noob until like last february) (and still) the grid to accept going in one square each. However, now that I think about it, I think I also then patched something in to stop that...
Okay, I'll definitely see if I can do that.

THIS IS HOW QUOTES LOOK FROM NOW ON |
My only beef before was how ugly it was. But really, we don't need to be told the time and stuff and it's TOTALLY not worth learning 4 hours of regex for just a stupid quote thing that'd just piss me off in the end anyway.
So yeah MonBre's going really well.

02/26/2009 05:27 | Running shoes, and then a bike. Old-school pokemon style.
But yeah, honestly I'd pay $5 to coat my monster in gold. Not so much because I care about that, more for the sake of the game, really. I think, though, using a credit system thing would work out better in the long run... $10 = 1000 moncoins? A hundred for this, a hundred for that, etc.

02/26/2009 15:21 | Lol, true. It's hard to figure out how best to do things like that, a lot of people might get turned off if they pay and get nothing good, a lot of people would get turned off if they could pay to get good stuff. Depends a lot on the community, sometimes.
There was one game I found about a month ago that really impressed me, not that I remember the name. Basically, you got one "gift" for a dollar, and the extra special things might be two or three "gifts". You got one for free when you signed up, and if you voted on all of the voting sites, you could get one every ten days.
It seems simple, but there was nothing to really ruin the economy. You could get storage that all of your characters could access, extra character slots, the ability to add character bios for roleplaying, stuff like that. I dunno, I just really liked that aspect right off the bat, but I just didn't have the time to really get into the game.
Now, a bad example... Lands of Hope. Not sure if you've ever played it, but basically, you could get up to level 250 for free. Sounds like a lot, and it is, but if you get THAT far, you wouldn't want to stop, right? So you donate $10, and you can keep going. But then, they started releasing expansion packs. $15 to access a new area. They're up to four or five now, I think? I liked the game, but that really got to me.
Donators only content = bad. Don't do that. Little bonuses, like extra money for priorities or something, work well, it's just hard to do it without either cash shop/monthly fees :/

MonBre 2: Dating Sim
On a less lame note, tomorrow I will be finishing up a lot of coding on MonBre and I was thinking perhaps a Friday (let's call it) "release" would be cool.

03/02/2009 15:31 | I'd be super impressed if you could keep up a schedule of one update/release per week. But even still, yeah I think things would be pretty cool to have.
MonSim? DateBre? And for that matter, MonDate and SimBre just for good measure.

03/03/2009 05:58 | Having a schedule is really nice, it does suck having deadlines, but it's also really nice to have a good work ethic kinda thing. At least, that's what they tell me.
I've just never seen a single person update their game much after it's more or less functional, either a. it's a team and they work like crazy or b. you get updates every couple months of tiny little things. They might be like oh, hey, that's cool, I'll add a new emoticon! But actual features? Those take effort
So yeah, like I said, that'd be impressive. Not important, but it does say good things.

It's actually a bit ironic - I forgot I made plans with someone for today, so I'll actually be coding a lot tomorrow. Sorry ;o;

03/03/2009 11:42 | Lol, nobody's asking you to quit life for the game.
But yeah, I know what that's like, I'd start a project, whether it was writing a story or trying to make a game or whatever, and I'll spend a while working on it constantly. And then I forget about it and find something else, or just invite a dozen people over and hang out. You know, one of the two.
