Binary was used for lots of stuff, and I know for a fact there's conversions out there for it... But I can't think of a single use for a base 11 counting system XD
There's probably a base 13 converter out there though, thanks to Life, The Universe, And Everything. Hint hint.

There's no formula in the novel, it's never actually said to use a base 13 counting system to get the right answer. Either Douglas Adams himself said it, or someone else figured it out. The actual Hitchhiker's Guide could probably find an answer, but unfortunately I don't happen to have one on me. Shame, really.
I'd recommend reading the books, I'm sure you can find a beautiful .pdf file hanging around the internet. I would encourage you to find physical copies, though... They're so much nicer, and they're worth it.
The movie simply wasn't the books. That's all there is to say about it.

Oh, and I found some ridiculous stories on an ad here a while back. Ridiculous to the point that I was intimidated into submission. I was like "gee this is really long with no breaks in between it, I'll just copy it into word perfect and print it off... oh, it's 27 pages long, I take that back."
I apparently decided I didn't have the patience for that and deleted the link, but it was some dark library thing or another. I don't know. It intrigued me, but it scared me away when I really thought about it.

Oddly enough, I spent $30 on books yesterday.
For certain things, though, I just really don't want to pay. For example, Discworld. Look, I KNOW Discworld is awesome. But there's 36 books! 36! How do you expect me to not only track those down, but buy them, too?
Nah, .pdfs will do just fine. I downloaded 36 books in about 13 seconds. I haven't read any of them, but by god, someday I will!

YES! A Song of Ice and Fire is amazing. They're working on casting for the TV show! Yeah!
Every book is going to have an entire season to itself. So, 12 hours per book. I'd say that's a good amount.
It's being done by HBO, so it might actually kick ass. Winter Is Coming is the blog that's keeping track of everything about it.
A longer series is the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. It's ridiculously big, but it's AWESOME.

I know, it should be great! Apparently the guy they cast for Tyrion is awesome and everyone's super happy about it. Good news so far!
Sadly, that's all they had announced last I checked... Still, spirits are high.
HBO is known for handling things well, I guess. So we'll see. The direwolves will be the toughest decision to make.
Favourite character... I honestly can't remember who my favourites were. I tore through the books so fast. Gregor Clegane sucks, though. Sandor is much more awesome. Well, was...
Daenerys is cool, it should be epic to see her ruling a city.
